Reiner Knizia's Battleline App Reviews

Buggy Even After Update

The game is still unplayable even after the update. The game often hard crashes before you can complete a game, with the game status not saved. Cards from the advanced game suddenly become unplayable and unselectable. Plus the AI is still weak, easily beaten the occasional times a game can be completed.

I Want to like it

Crashes a lot. Ai needs work.

Great game, great app

Plays just like the original game. And the AI is delightfully challenging!

Buggy

Love the game, but cant rate it more than one star because it crashes every time I play. Buggiest iOS app Ive used yet.

crashes way too much

The "strong" opponent is good fun if the game doesnt crash on you first.

Another winner from Knizia

This is a great game by R. Knizia, considered by many to be the top game theorist we have today. And this is a good implementation of it, that keeps getting better (2 updates since its initial release a short time ago). Id never played this before, and so learned from the app: I found the explanation of the rules to be quite clear. The standard game is intriguing, but its hard to return to it after learning the Advanced version. The addition of tactics cards ups the ante greatly. as it does the suspense. Well worth your time and money.

Game hangs when I start it

When I start a new game, I see no flags on screen and it just doesnt do anything. iPad ver. 3.2 Also the app crashes when I click the How to Play button.

Keep freezing in advanced

Have had to reinstall several times after the game froze when having more than 1 scroll in my hand. Annoying.

Great strategy game

The game is smooth, easy to learn, and thought provoking. I havent had any problems with crashing. Online play is nice but I wish there was the ability to create open matches for other players to join without having to wait on someone in game (this might be possible but I havent figured it out.) This game seems very under rated at the time I wrote this, way better than 3 stars. The AI is good but seems a little easy even on hard, or maybe Im just that awesome :) The best part is online play but unfortunately some people have rated low, which probably has keep more peeps from buying it. Overall this is a great game and decently priced, much more rewarding than chucking birds at brick walls and windows.

Nice!

Excellent execution of this card game. Beautiful art and music! Impressive features in the update. Im excited to see more games from Rational Brothers.

Like the game but there are problems

Easy to learn and fun to play as a light game. The AI does not seem particularly strong, even at the stronger level. Would love to see some effort made making the AI more competitive. Problem logging in for online play. Login button to Gourmet Gaming is unresponsive, as is the developer when I made an inquiry.

Great game

I have owned the physical card game for years but had trouble finding someone to play it with. The game works great for me on my iPad 2 with no crashes. I find the single-player game a lot of fun and quite challenging. I have yet to try online play.

Keeps freezing on iOS 5

Freezes when trying to use tactic cards.

Nice little game ... with some bugs

This is an excellent adaptation of the card game which lends itself well to pocket gaming. Be aware, though, that the game will currently not start unless you have a connection to Game Center. So if you go off the grid or hit a dead zone with no coverage, you wont be able to play this. There are a few other minor bugs and design flaws, but overall this is a good game.

Fun

AI is pretty good, havent tried MP yet. UI isnt perfect (two finger tap to get to menu is obscure if you gloss over the mention at the start). Still a solid game.

Fast and fun.

Good game, similar to Reiners Knights of Charlemagne but much better developed and more satisfying. Definitely more interesting in advanced mode with the tactical chits, which add a whole new dimension to what Id otherwise a standard card-counting affair. Only gripe is that the AI is really weak; even in hard mode, I lost to it only on my first play, then beat it ten times straight. And I dont even play poker!

Great game!

Super fun and addictive. The games are quick so its easy to fit them in while waiting around for a little while.

Not the best board game

I cant really play online and the game is kinda limited when playing only against the AI. I love board games but Im not really sure this game is worth it.

Love it!

Looks great. Runs great. My wife loves it! Great all around. Did not try online play.

Clunky

First attempt wouldnt let me start a game. Second attempt, it keeps saying there is no legal play for me nor opponent. After restarting my device, I actually was able to play a game! PROS: - Seems to work when it doesnt crash. - Greek letters for card "suits" is a nice touch. CONS: - I know most everyone lauds the graphics, but I am not impressed b/c the silhouette card symbols are not easy to distinguish. - It took me a while to figure out the color scheme: --- back silhouettes show unplayed or previously played cards --- white silhouettes show last played card (at first I thought these were different cards) --- tan shows playable cards on your turn - No networked multiplayer is clunky. - Menus are clunky - Quick access to formation ranking is not available, but it really needs to be. - (minor) Lack of stats. Not a big deal but might be nice. In short, I cannot recommend this until there are some serious updates. Too bad as the real version is one of my favourite two player games (though I do like Schotten-Totten better!).
